Tree Dedication

On Thursday, June 2nd, Gombert students, staff, and teachers celebrated the dedication of the new tree purchased for the front of the school.  In May, students hosted a "Gator Market"/Bake/Plant Sale" fundraiser to raise money to purchase the new tree.  The sale was a success and the students raised over $200.  Just a few short weeks later, the tree was purchased along with a wood-burned plaque dedicating the tree to Gombert by "Student Council 2010-2011".

Just before school let out for summer, the tree was planted in the front of the school.

The students celebrated the planing of the new tree by blowing bubbles and singing our school song.  It was a great way for Student Council and other Gators students, staff, and teachers, to celebrate the end of the 2010-2011 school year and a celebration of new beginnings!

WAY TO GO GATORS!  HAPPY SUMMER!

Student Council News for May

Elections for the 2011-2012 officers is going on right now.  New officers will be announced on Friday, May 13th.  Representatives for each room will be selected in August/September of the 2011-2012 school year.

Gigi had a couple of busy months.  She made a visit to help Mrs. Korda read for Dr. Seuss' birthday.  This was enjoyed by the first graders during their "Green Eggs & Ham" party.  She celebrated her 1st birthday by giving everyone "Happy 1st Birthday, Gigi!" pencils.  She showed up at "Skae Night" to do the HOkey Pokey with the crowd.  She loves to visit all of her gators friends!

THANKS to everyone who volunteered, donated baked goods & plants, and who came to the "Gator Marker" sale.  We raised over $275.00 for the purchase of te tree for the front of the school.

In honor of "Earth Day", Student Council had a FUN contest going for all the classrooms.  NOn-classroom staff initialed "Thinking Energy Smart" sheets for classrooms they thought were doing their part on Earth DaY.  The classroom winners were: grades K-1 = Mrs. Baker; grades 2-3 (3 way tie) = Mrs. Bretz, Mr. Ferrell, Mrs. Goodwin; grades 4-5 = Mrs. Rodriguez.  We also chose Mrs. Wenman, Mrs. Ensign, and Mrs. Wieseman as winners for taking the time to initial sheets.  Congratulations to all & thanks for helping take care of our Earth!

GO GATORS!

Mrs. Korda and Gigi read together!

In honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday, each grade level had a Dr. Seuss story read to them by a mystery reader.  The first graders had a special video reader during their "Green Eggs and Ham" party.  Mrs. Korda and Gigi had a great time reading!  Check out the picture below!

Letter from Soldiers' Angels

Throughout the school year, Gombert students and Student Council have been making "G" cards.  These cards were part of a program to provide free stationary to any of our armed forces so they could write to family and friends while away on duty.  Since the beginning of the year, there has been a collection bin located in the LMC where students can donate completed cards.  This "G" card program has been a huge success and the students have made hundreds of cards that we have sent to a program called Soldiers' Angels.  The first big batch of cards was sent in December and a second batch of cards will be sent in May.

Recently, Gombert's Student Council received a little "thank you" note from Soldiers' Angels.  The program just wanted to send us a note about the 21 bags of cards, envelopes, and pens that were donated.  Each bag had 10 cards of varying sizes and envelopes.

Letter from Lifespring

In February, Gombert's Student Council held a two-week long clothing drive. All of the clothing collected was to be donated to Lifespring Ministry.  The program was titled Gifts from the Heart.  The students did a great job of telling their classes about donations and there were many Gators that donated.

On the last collection date, the clothing was sent to Lifespring on behalf of the Gombert Student Council.  The charity was thrilled with our donation and sent us a wonderful 'thank you' letter.  Below is the letter from Lifespring Ministries.
